"Every Good Hero should have some"

THE KEEP IT OLDSKOOL MOVIE OF THE WEEK

I'm Gonna Get You Sucka is a 1988 movie that was a parody of the 70s Blaxploitation movies. The movie was written and directed by Keenan Ivory Wayans who had co-written Hollywood Shuffle and Eddie Murphy Raw. The movie starred many of the icons of the 70s movies and television shows (Jim Brown, Bernie Casey, Antonio Fargas and Ja'net Dubios) The movie introduced us to Keenan's younger brother Damon Wayans

The movie's plot centered around the epidemic of "OGing" or Over Golding meaning the amount of gold that people were wearing was in fact killing them. This of course was a veiled reference at the crack cocaine problem that was destroying the inner cities The "Black Hero" of the movie is named Jack Spade who enlists the help of former neighborhood protectors John Slade, Kung Fu Joe and Hammer and Slammer to bring down Mr. Big. The movie has plenty of memorable lines and scenes with some  of the most famous being when Jack goes home with a young woman he meets and finds out that everything thing is not always as it seems. Also when Fly Guy gets out of jail and realizes after ridicule of course that the fashions of have changed while he has been away. And lastly a hilarious scene with Chris Rock looking to buy a meal and Hammer and Slammer Rib shop

This movie was able to poke fun at the films that African Americans went to see in droves in the 70s. The movie also spotlighted that a lot of established Caucasian actors turned up in these movies. This movie that was made for 3 million dollars did not win awards made a modest profit of 13 million became more of a cult classic once it was released to VCR tape. It pops up now and again on cable and has since been released on DVD is great fun and is recommended to young and old. Parting shot Slammer (Jim Brown) after meeting Jack Spade for the first time "What makes you think you can be a Black Hero" Jack Spades thinks for a moment and says "I'm an ex professional football player" and Slammer has no choice to take a step back.
