THE ONE AND ONLY BLUEPRINT

KEEP IT OLDSKOOL PRESENTS

Classic on this day 25 years ago.

On this day June 28th 1989 Boogie Down Productions released
Ghetto Music: The Blueprint This album was the follow up to the groundbreaking By All Means Necessary.  Krs One in full teacher mode crafted and album with an all seeing "eye" on what Hip Hop was starting to become. With songs like "You Must Learn" he spoke about how so many walk around daily and have no idea of the accomplishments that African Americans/Black People have achieved in history.
Krs made a conscious effort to not only provide music that you could dance to, but that you could also LEARN from. Continuing with the teaching Krs decided to give a lesson in Bible History and people of color's place in the Bible. In "Why Is That" he gave a genealogy  report on the family of the Abraham with:

"Genesis chapter eleven verse ten
Explains the genealogy of Shem
Shem was a black man in Africa
If you repeat this fact they can't laugh at ya
Genesis fourteen verse thirteen
Abraham steps on the scene
Being a descendant of Shem which is a fact
Means, Abraham too was black"

For many reasons many call this one Boogie Down Productions most underrated albums because of it being between By All Means Necessary in 1988 and Edutainment in 1990. Also on the Blueprint album was a song Krs contributed to the I'm Gonna Get You Sucka movie soundtrack. The song was called "Jack of Spades"

All of the songs on the Blueprint album were produced "in house" primarily by Krs One and D-Nice. The album featured 13 songs. with 3 being released as singles.(the above 3) Krs One continued and continues to make music. He has become an outspoken critic of the "label system" and preaches artists to become more independent.  Krs One would go on to make 3 more albums under the BDP moniker before recording as just Krs One. As one Hip Hop's true icons Keep It Oldskool gives a "yo that's fresh" to Krs One for on this day 25 years releasing a classic.
